Rooms of the Future

How might we simulate the future technologies we’ll need before the walls go up?

Project VIRTUAL

Client: Yale New Haven Health System

Project Type: Spatial Design & Technology Planning (2021-2022)

Overview:

Imagining new facilities & adopting new ways-of-working are difficult when limited to expensive and operationally challenging physical mock-ups, traditional architectural drawings, and existing legacy approaches. The goal was to develop an immersive, virtual, asynchronous tool that can bring together space, technology and workflow considerations to enhance collaboration in planning future care experiences across a range of settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Pitch, proposals and business development

  • Creative concept ideation and experience strategy

  • Executive and core-team presentations

  • Resourcing and project management

  • Coordination with architects and vendor agencies

Overview of virtual tool and key features

Using virtual tools to depict future care experiences

I drove the development of a new tech-forward approach to the design & planning of healthcare experiences across care settings. From the home to the hospital, future technology needs and workflows are depicted using an immersive web-based platform. Working with Yale New Haven Health System and their architectural partners, the tool was developed to illustrate and explore desired patient, visitor, and staff experiences across a range of settings and workflows. The approach helped gain consensus on underlying IT platforms and technologies to plan for in forthcoming building projects, and establish care signature standards for the system at large.
